  • Godrevy Lighthouse from Gwithian Towans, Cornwall. The coast path from Hayle to Godrevy is largely undefined as it crosses the towans (sand dunes), but whichever route you take there are good views of Godrevy Lighthouse. • St Uny Church, Lelant, Cornwall The church overlooks the Hayle Estuary and is unique as it sits on two popular rights of way, the South West Coast Path, and the St Michael's Way, (which starts at St Uny and crosses to St Michael's Mount on the South Coast). St Uny's church dates back to the 12th century, originally called St Euny's church. St Uny (or Euny), is a popular saint in the area, there are several local churches dedicated to the saint Hayle and Redruth for example). The present church at Lelant largely dates from the 15th century. It is thought that the church was rebuilt at a time when wind blown sand silted up the Hayle estuary and encroached on Lelant, the vicarage itself was buried in sand. A number of ancient Cornish crosses can be found in the graveyard. In the 14th century, Lelant lost an estimated 40% of it's population with the Black Plague, many were buried in the church grounds. • St Michael's Mount from Longrock St Michael's Mount is a tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by a granite causeway. It has a resident population of about 35 and has been the seat of the St Aubyn family since the mid 1600's The earliest buildings, on the summit, date to the 12th century, the harbour is 15th century and the village and summit buildings were rebuilt between 1860 and 1900. The chapel on the summit is appropriately enough dedicated to St Michael, patron saint of high places. The Mount is now managed by The National Trust. A boat service operates from Marazion to the Mount, when the causeway is under water. The path on the left of the photo is the South West Coast path which has been widened and surface between Penzance and Marazion to provide a dual purpose route for walkers and cyclists (bike hire is available).
