News - New Completer's Badges

Published on: Dec. 9, 2011, 12:59 p.m.

The new SW Coast Path Completers badgeA new exclusive cloth badge is now available to anyone who has walked the entire South West Coast Path National Trail.

Walking the entire path is an amazing achievement and perhaps the UK’s ultimate challenge for the long distance walker. It is rated as one of the world's greatest walks - a 630-mile adventure around the coastline of the southwest peninsula.

Although a tough walk – in completing it you will have climbed and descended over 115,000 feet, the equivalent of almost 4 Mount Everest’s, you don’t have to be super fit to do it. Whilst a few hardy souls walk it from end to end in a single trip, most people split into day walks and short breaks spread over several years.

As well as getting their exclusive cloth badge, walkers will also be featured on the new online Coast Path Hall of Fame gallery which is featured on Facebook. As the list grows, potential walkers will be able to find out more about walking the trail from others who have completed it.

One of the first to be added to the Hall of Fame are Jane and Forster Raywood who travelled over from Australia to walk the path. Their comment was ‘How lucky are you to have such a wonderful walk, everyday on the track we would sit in another stunningly scenic situation and ask ourselves, where else would you rather be?  The answer was always the same - nowhere else.’

If you would like one of these badges, all you have to do is email us the following details:

  • Name
  • Address (only your town, county or country will be shown on the website, but we need the full details to post the badge to)
  • A short description that sums up your experience of the walk.
  • A photo, and a brief explanation of the highlight of your walk – this doesn’t have to be of you at the end markers.

In addition to badges, anyone who has completed the entire path can also get a Certificate from the South West Coast Path Association.
