A charity walk unlike any other is soon to take place as Steve Ridd (46) and his mum Pauline (68) 
prepare to embark on an epic walk covering all 300 miles of the South West Coast Path in Cornwall and to document their experience in a truly unique fashion.

They are doing it to help raise funds for the ground beneath their feet and that is the Coast Path itself. In doing so, they will also raise awareness of the work that goes into taking care of this national treasure by writing a daily blog and setting a fun quiz on twitter to encourage people to join them on their journey and enjoy it.

They will set off on October 15th and plan to complete the distance in just over two weeks. It’s a challenge that will certainly provide plenty of interest for those taking part, not just for the highs and lows that skirting the peninsula naturally entails, but for the entertainment value as well. As the founder of Cornwall based company Treasure Trails, he’s used to setting clues to add an element of fun and local interest to a walking route.

Each day Steve will set a photographic clue to a particular location on that day’s walk. Those that have answered any one clue correctly over the two week period, will be entered into a prize draw to win family membership to the National Trust. The more times you enter the more chance you have of winning.

The majority of funds raised (75%) will be put towards specific improvement projects on the Coast Path, which will take place this Autumn so long as they reach their target. The National Trust will carry out the work between Polruan and Looe, which is over and above the basic funding that is provided for National Trails. This is made up of contributions by Natural England (two thirds of the overall budget), the Highways Authorities and The National Trust, which owns over a third of the Coast Path in Cornwall.

The money raised will provide a significant boost to a well used stretch of coast and help protect a valuable asset that attracts millions of people to the region each year. The South West Coast Path contributes more than £300m to the local economy, yet funding to help maintain it has shrunk.

A further 25% of funds raised will be put towards Pauline's own charity, the Polperro Memory Cafe, of which she is both a founder and volunteer.
