A fundraising family adventure

A Treasure Trail is a family affair as Steve Ridd and his mum Pauline are set to prove as they embark on an epic walk covering all 299 miles of the South West Coast Path in Cornwall for two charities close to their hearts - the South West Coast Path and the Polperro memory Cafe.

Steve, 46, is the Managing Director and founder of Treasure Trails Ltd, a Cornwall based business producing walking routes with a fun quiz element for families, while his mum Pauline, 68, is a volunteer and founder of The Polperro Memory Café, which is set to benefit from a quarter of the sponsorship funds raised.

Their aim is to complete the distance in just 14 days and they will be setting off on 15th October and intend to finish on 31st October.

The majority of their sponsorship (75%) will be put towards the South West Coast Path Association, a charity that protects, improves, and preserves the path for the public to enjoy the stunning coastal landscapes of the region on foot.

Lizzie Wallis from the South West Coast Path Association said:

“We are very grateful to Steve and Pauline Ridd for choosing us as one of their charities and we wish them all the best on their walk – we’re sure they’ll enjoy their expedition.”

The funds raised for the Association will be used for numerous small improvement projects to upgrade the path on the National Trust sections of the South West Coast Path between Looe and Polperro, with the work being carried out this Autumn. The completion of this work will make it a better experience for walkers and ensure the condition of the path is maintained for future generations to enjoy.

The Polperro Memory Café provides a regular meeting place for sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer's, and their carers. At each meeting people support each other, share information, and take part in activities to help stimulate their mind. Funds raised will be used to keep the cafe going and provide activities for the group for the next 12 months.
