Website gets runner up prize in travel awards

The South West Coast Path National Trail website was the runner-up in Best Travel website section of the 2009 Oldie Travel Awards, organised by The Oldie magazine. The winner was Resorthoppa.com, a site on which you can book transfers between airports and resorts around the world.

A black tie awards ceremony was held at the East India Club in London on Tuesday 10 November. Mark Owen, the South West Coast Path National Trail Officer was invited to attend the event with the celebrated journalist Rosie Boycott presenting the awards.

Rosie is The Oldie travel editor and she praised the Coast Path website for it's ease of use, inspiring images and having all the information needed to plan either a short walk or a long trip along the path.

There were 11 categories in total, ranging from Best Hostel to Best Travel Gadget in a celebration of individualism and excellence, qualities to which The Oldie magazine aspires. A circulation of 35,000, The Oldie is a general interest magazine and describes itself as, ‘packed with cartoons, great writing and pithy good sense’.

Whilst the Coast Path website didn’t win, with thousands of different travel sites on the web, it was praise indeed that it made the short list.

Mark said: “The South West Coast Path Team has made a number of changes to the website in recent years and are constantly striving to improve its quality. Although we didn’t win, it was great to hear that the site provides a good user friendly experience as the gateway to the UK’s longest and most popular National Trail.”
