SE Cornwall: Tregantle Firing Range

The permissive path through the Tregantle rifle ranges, on Whitsand Bay in South East Cornwall has recently been extended.

The new path, like the existing range path, is only available when firing is not taking place, which is on alternate weekends, Bank Holidays and throughout August. Other non-firing days also occur frequently throughout the year and availability can be checked by phoning 01752 822516.

The new path allows walkers to avoid a busy road, and also offers panoramic views along the coast towards Looe as well as excellent views of the 19th century Tregantle Fort. There is also an improved link from the new path to a nearby beach.

The new path has been made available thanks to the good offices of the MoD and the Defence Estates, together with Landmarc Support Services Ltd, the MoD’s service provider. The work was directed and overseen by Cornwall Council, and involved cutting the path through sometimes very difficult terrain.

The work was funded by Cornwall Council, Natural England, the Defence Training Estates and a significant contribution from The South West Coast Path Association. The Association feels that the new path offers Coast Path walkers a safer and environmentally better route, even if not available at all times, and is happy that its funds can be used in situations like this where the project could not have proceeded without our financial help.
